One of the most famous mountains in Makkah, located to the east of the Grand Mosque. This mountain is the site of the Cave of Hiraʾ, where the Prophet worshipped before beginning his Mission; this is the place where the first verses of the Holy Qurʾān were revealed: “Read, in the name of your Lord who created” [Sūrat al-ʿAlaq: verse 1]. It is one of the higher mountains in Makkah, its summit shaped like the hump of a camel. No other mountain in Makkah resembles the Mountain of Light; it is unique in its shape and form.
