Al-Hudaybiyah, now known as "Al-Shumaisi", is situated 22 km west of Al-Masjid Al-Haram. In the sixth year of the Hijrah, Prophet Muhammad (PBUH), along with 1,400 companions, stayed there intending to perform Umrah in Makkah, but Quraysh prevented them from entering. Al-Hudaybiyah also witnessed the Pledge of Al-Ridwan, which occurred following rumors of the death of the Prophet's envoy, Uthman ibn Affan (may Allah be pleased with him), during negotiations with Quraysh. In response, the Prophet’s companions pledged their allegiance to fight Quraysh. Allah the Almighty says in His Book: “Indeed, Allah was pleased with the believers when they pledged allegiance to you ˹O Prophet˺ under the tree. He knew what was in their hearts, so He sent down serenity upon them and rewarded them with a victory at hand.” Negotiations between Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) and Quraysh took place there, leading to the Treaty of Hudaybiyah. The Prophet (PBUH) and his companions then shaved their heads, sacrificed their animals, and returned to Al-Madinah that year. Masjid Al-Hudaybiyah is found near Makkah on the old Jeddah road, in a place now known as Al-Shumaisi. It is approximately 24 kilometers from the Al-Masjid Al-Haram and about 2 kilometers from the boundaries of Al-Haram. It was at this place the Muslims and Quraysh concluded the Treaty of Hudaybiyah in the month of Dhu Al-Qi’dah in the 6th year of Hijrah (March 627 CE). The treaty stipulated a ten-year truce that was later breached due to the aggression of Banu Bakr against Banu Khuza’a.
