It is named after the “Khayf of Banu Kinana”. Masjid Al-Khyaf is located in the Mina area, near the small Jamarah. In Arabic, "Khayf" refers to the area that slopes down from a high hill and rises above the water flow. Due to its historical significance in connection with the rituals of Mina, the mosque has received considerable attention and care from the leadership of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. The mosque was expanded and renovated in 1407 AH (1987) at an estimated cost of 90 million Saudi Riyals.
